Resin Bound Aggregate and Kiln-Dried Stone
Resin bound work is unforgiving: too much moisture and the resin will not cure, too many fines and the mix goes cloudy. The aggregate specification matters more than the price per tonne.
- Kiln-dried with controlled residual moisture
- Closely graded 1–3 mm and 2–5 mm bands
- Dust and fines screened out before drying
- Colour blends matched batch to batch

Why moisture content decides the job
Polyurethane resin reacts with water. Aggregate above roughly 0.5% residual moisture causes foaming, poor bonding and a cloudy finish. Kiln drying followed by sealed bagging is the only reliable way to hold that level through shipping and storage.
Grading and why fines are removed
A resin bound mix relies on uniform stone size so the resin coats every particle evenly. Fines soak up resin, increase cost per square metre and dull the finish. We screen twice — before and after drying — to keep the band tight.
Choosing 1–3 mm or 2–5 mm
1–3 mm gives a fine, smooth surface popular for patios and wheelchair-accessible paths. 2–5 mm is the general driveway standard with more texture and better slip resistance. Some installers blend both for a specific look.
Colour blends and consistency
Most installers sell a handful of named blends. We mix to your recipe and retain the reference so repeat orders match — critical when a customer extends a driveway a year later and expects the same colour.
Packing and storage
Sealed 25 kg bags on shrink-wrapped pallets keep moisture out. Bags should be stored under cover and used in rotation; a split bag left outdoors overnight will absorb enough moisture to fail.
Coverage per tonne
At 15 mm laid depth, one tonne of 1–3 mm aggregate covers around 45–50 square metres, and 2–5 mm at 18 mm covers around 40 square metres. Exact figures vary with the resin ratio your system specifies.
