Why rounded gravel matters in aquariums
Rounded gravel does not scratch glass or injure bottom-dwelling fish. Angular chippings can trap food and waste in sharp corners, making cleaning harder. For aquarium use, always specify rounded, washed stone.
Colours that sell
Natural white, black, mixed and honey tones are the staple aquarium colours. Bright dyed gravel is common in low-end retail but many specialist stores prefer natural stone that will not fade or leach.
Size selection by tank type
2–4 mm suits planted tanks and small fish. 4–8 mm is the standard all-round aquarium gravel. 6–10 mm and 8–12 mm work for larger tanks and cichlid setups where bigger substrate is preferred.
Washing and water safety
We wash aquarium gravel to remove dust, fines and any residual quarry material. The stone is inert and will not alter pH or hardness significantly. Rinse again before use to remove any packing dust.
