Decorative Aggregate Supply for Landscape Distributors

A landscape distributor's problem is not finding stone — it is finding stone that looks the same on the fourth container as it did on the first, because contractors buying for a phased project will notice if it does not. This page covers supply for yard-based distribution rather than retail.

Consistency across repeat containers

Consistency is a sourcing discipline. We retain your approved sample, record the source batch behind it, and sort later orders against that reference rather than against a written description. Where a source runs out, we tell you before shipping and send a fresh sample instead of assuming a close match will pass.

For distributors serving phased commercial projects, this is worth more than a marginal price difference — a shade change mid-project is a re-supply argument you cannot win.

Formats that suit a yard

Most distributors run bulk bags for stock rotation and loose loading for their fastest-moving grades. Bulk bags keep grades separated, survive outdoor storage, and let a contractor take a whole bag without your staff filling one. Loose loading is cheaper per tonne but needs bay space and clean separation.

A common pattern is loose for the top two sellers and bulk bags for everything else.

Range depth and what contractors ask for

Contractor demand concentrates on ground cover, driveway-grade aggregate, decorative borders and water features. Within that, size band matters as much as colour: a 10 mm and a 20 mm of the same stone often sell to different jobs and both need stocking.

Scheduled supply

Distributors buying seasonally get the most out of a schedule rather than ad-hoc orders. Agree the containers and approximate months at the start of the year; material is reserved and sorted ahead of each window, which is what keeps consistency achievable in the first place.

Setting up a distribution supply line

  1. 1

    Agree the core range

Pick the grades and size bands your contractors actually specify, not the widest possible list.

  2. 2

    Approve samples per grade

One retained sample per grade becomes the reference for every future container.

  3. 3

    Set the format split

Decide loose versus bulk bag by grade based on your bay space and turnover.

  4. 4

    Schedule the year

Plan container months around your season so material is reserved before your peak.

  5. 5

    Review after each container

Feed back what sold and what did not so the next allocation follows demand.

Questions buyers ask

How do you keep colour consistent between containers?
Retained approved samples plus a recorded source batch. If the source changes, we send a new sample before shipping rather than after.
Can you supply the same stone in two size bands?
Yes, and for contractor supply it is usually worth doing — a finer and a coarser band of the same stone sell to different jobs.
Do you supply bulk bags branded for our yard?
Bulk bags can be printed or labelled to your requirement; tell us at quotation stage as it affects lead time.
What if we need a top-up between scheduled containers?
Tell us early. An unplanned container is possible but the sorting priority is far easier to manage inside an agreed schedule.
