Pebbles Manufacturer in India — Processing & Grading Capability
Natural pebbles are not manufactured from raw material in the way a tile or a paver is; they are selected and processed. What separates one Indian pebble manufacturer from another is the processing line — how stone is washed, graded, tumbled, sorted and checked before it reaches a bag. This page describes that process rather than the commercial terms, which are covered on the exporter and wholesale pages.

From raw stone to graded pebble
Material arrives either as river-worn stone that is already rounded, or as quarry stone that needs shaping. River stone skips the tumbling stage and goes straight to washing and grading. Quarry stone for polished lines is tumbled in rotating drums with water and abrasive until the edges are gone and the surface takes a shine — a process measured in days, not hours, which is why polished grades cost more per tonne than natural ones.
Washing matters more than most buyers expect. Residual silt is the single most common complaint on arrival because it dulls colour and stains bagging. Stone destined for retail bags is washed harder than stone going loose to a landscape yard.
Size grading and tolerance
Sizing is done on screens, so a size band is a band, not a single dimension. A 20–40 mm grade contains stone across that range and a small percentage that sits just outside it. Tighter bands are possible — they simply cost more, because more material is rejected to achieve them.
We record the agreed band and the accepted out-of-band percentage on the quotation. If your retail packaging prints a size, tell us before sorting so the band is set to match what the pack claims.
Colour sorting
Colour sorting is hand work. Natural stone from one source varies, and a pure single-colour grade is achieved by picking stone out, not by treating it. This is why a bright white grade carries a different price to a mixed white-and-cream grade of the same size from the same source.
We do not dye or paint stone, and we will tell you when a colour you have seen elsewhere is likely to have been treated. Dyed stone fades outdoors and the complaint reaches you, not the supplier who sold it.
Quality checks before packing
Before packing, a batch is checked against the retained approved sample for colour, size spread, surface finish and cleanliness. Photographs of the actual batch are shared before dispatch. Keeping the approved sample at your end and ours is what turns a later disagreement into a factual comparison rather than an argument about memory.

| Screening | Size band and out-of-band percentage | How tight a tolerance you need |
| Tumbling | Roundness and edge removal | Natural, semi-tumbled or fully polished |
| Polishing | Gloss level on the surface | Matte natural vs high-gloss display grade |
| Hand sorting | Colour purity within the grade | Single colour vs mixed-tone grade |

Questions buyers ask
- Is a polished pebble coated or is the shine natural?
- The shine on our polished grades comes from tumbling and abrasion, not a coating. Coated stone looks impressive in a showroom and degrades outdoors, so we do not supply it.
- Can you produce a tighter size tolerance than your standard bands?
- Yes, within limits. Tighter screening rejects more material, so the price per tonne rises. Tell us what the tolerance is for and we will advise whether it is worth the cost for your application.
- Do you supply unwashed stone at a lower price?
- For some bulk landscape grades, a lighter wash is possible and does reduce cost. For anything going into a printed retail bag we would advise against it.
- How is colour consistency maintained across repeat orders?
- By keeping the approved sample, recording the source batch and sorting the repeat order against that sample rather than against a general description.
