The two-layer build-up installers use

Trying to do both jobs with one material is the most common cause of a lumpy finished lawn.

Why granite rather than limestone

Granite dust compacts to a firm, stable surface and stays free draining. Limestone fines can set hard when wet and dry repeatedly, which reduces permeability and can lead to standing water beneath the turf. For rooftop and pet areas in particular, granite is the safer specification.

Drainage under pet areas

Pet runs put liquid through the surface daily, so free drainage matters more than on a decorative lawn. Keeping the laying course open, and avoiding any binder or clay-bearing fine, is what stops odour building up in the base.

Tell us the square metres and we convert to tonnes for both layers, allowing for compaction. As a working figure, a 100 m² lawn takes roughly 11–13 tonnes of sub-base and 4–5 tonnes of laying course at standard depths.
