Pebble Stone Supply for Hardware Store Importers
Hardware retail sells stone by the bag, not by the tonne, and that changes almost everything upstream. Pack weight has to suit a customer carrying it to a car, the pallet has to suit your aisle, and the range has to be narrow enough to hold shelf space. This page is about supplying that model from import.

Pack format decides the sell-through
The most common failure in hardware retail stone is a bag sized for the yard rather than the shelf. A 20 kg bag sells to a tradesperson; a smaller handled or resealable pack sells to a homeowner buying enough to top a few planters. Ranging both, from the same grade, usually outperforms ranging two different stones in one size.
We pack to your specification, including your artwork, bag material, weight and barcode placement, and we will tell you when a chosen bag will not survive the handling stone gives it.
Pallets and store handling
A pallet that fits the container efficiently and a pallet that fits your aisle are not automatically the same pallet. Confirm your pallet footprint, maximum stack height and whether stores receive on a pallet jack or a forklift, and the loading plan is built around that instead of around container maths alone.
Range planning for a hardware aisle
A workable starting range for most hardware chains is a white or pale ground-cover stone, one dark contrast stone, a natural river or mixed tone, and a decorative chip such as slate or marble. Four SKUs cover most customer intents without splitting velocity across near-identical products.
We consolidate all four in one container so the trial does not require four separate shipments.
Replenishment and seasonality
Garden stone is seasonal in most markets, and the reorder container needs to be on the water before the season starts rather than ordered once shelves empty. Share your peak months at the first order and material can be reserved and sorted against your approved sample ahead of the cycle.
At a glance
| Format | Shopper | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Small handled or resealable pack | Homeowner topping planters | Highest margin per kg, impulse placement |
| Mid-weight bag (approx. 10 kg) | Small garden project | Easy to carry, strong shelf performer |
| Heavy bag (approx. 20–25 kg) | Tradesperson or larger project | Requires a low shelf or pallet display |
| Bulk bag on the yard | Landscaper | Sold from the outdoor area, not the aisle |
Questions buyers ask
- Can you print our own branded bags?
- Yes. Send artwork, bag material preference, weight and barcode requirements and printed retail packing is quoted as a separate line from material.
- How many SKUs should we start with?
- Four is usually the sweet spot for a first hardware range — a pale, a dark, a natural mixed tone and a decorative chip — consolidated into one container.
- Do you supply shelf-ready pallets?
- Yes, built to your pallet footprint and stack height rather than to a default container-optimised configuration.
- Can we combine retail bags and bulk bags in one shipment?
- Yes, and many hardware buyers do — retail bags for the aisle, bulk bags for the outdoor yard area.
