Red Granite Gravel and Chippings

Red granite gravel adds warm colour to landscaping schemes that would otherwise default to grey or cream. It is hard-wearing, angular and holds its colour well outdoors, which makes it popular for driveways and feature beds.

Why red granite works for driveways

Red granite is hard, angular and interlocks under compaction. It resists rutting and keeps its warm colour even when dusty, which is why it is often chosen for rural and residential driveways.

Colour range and consistency

Natural red granite varies from deep rust-red to lighter pink. We sort by tone and send batch photographs before loading so buyers know whether the current batch is deep or pinkish.

Size selection

10–20 mm is the standard driveway and path size. 6–10 mm suits finer paths and between paving. 20–40 mm is used for feature beds and drainage where a chunkier look is wanted.

Coverage per tonne

At 40–50 mm depth, one tonne of 10–20 mm red granite gravel covers roughly 13–15 square metres. Granite is dense, so the weight per square metre is higher than slate but the coverage is similar.

Washed versus unwashed

Washed red granite looks brighter and does not dust in dry weather. Unwashed is cheaper and acceptable for buried drainage work. For anything visible, specify washed.

Installation and edging

Angular granite stays in place better than rounded gravel, but a firm edge restraint and compacted sub-base are still essential for driveways and paths. Without them, even the best stone will spread and rut.

Retail bagging

Red granite is a strong retail seller because the warm colour stands out. We supply 20–25 kg printed bags, jumbo bags and loose bulk from the same washed batch.

Container payload

A 20ft container of red granite gravel typically carries 25–26 tonnes. Mixed containers with other colours or sizes are common for distributors testing demand.

Wholesale, bulk and export details

This product is supplied on the same commercial basis as the rest of our range: quantity confirmed against container payload, packing quoted separately and documentation prepared to your broker's brief.
